Chief Executive Of Messaging App Telegram Pavel Durov Has Been Arrested By France Police At Airport In North Paris.

Pavel Durov was arrested when he arrived at Paris’ Bourget airport outside Paris in his private jet.

It has been learned that OFMIN, the French organization responsible for preventing violence against minors, has charged Telegram’s Founder and CEO with fraud, drug trafficking, cyberspace malice and involvement in organized crime.

Officials have stated that the 39-year-old billionaire was detained under a warrant for offenses linked to the widely-used messaging application. The inquiry is said to focus on incompetent moderation, with Mr. Durov was charged with not taking necessary measures to limit the criminal use of Telegram.

The app faces allegations of not cooperating with law enforcement regarding issues such as drug trafficking, child sexual exploitation, and fraud. Telegram has previously rejected claims of Insufficient moderation.

The French Ministry of Interior and the police have refrained from saying anything, while the management of the Telegram app has also avoid from saying anything.

Pavel Durov, originally from Russia and currently residing in Dubai, holds citizenship in both the United Arab Emirates and France.

Telegram has gained significant popularity in Russia, Ukraine, and other former Soviet states.

In 2018, the app was banned in Russia due to Durov’s earlier refusal to provide user data, but the ban was lifted in 2021.

Telegram is recognized as one of the leading social media platforms alongside Facebook, YouTube, WhatsApp, Instagram, TikTok, and WeChat.

Durov established Telegram in 2013 and left Russia in 2014 after declining the government’s requests to eliminate opposition groups on his sold VKontakte social media site.
